This document shows the various part numbers needed for the various wood, metal and stone trim options on the Mercedes SL (R230).

It was written because I was changing the trim in my SL and wanted to find the correct used trim.

There are only 3 wood trim pieces in the SL,  one on each door and the centre console.

There are 5 variants of the centre console: -  MY2002 (Launch) -> MY2004 (ie chassis nr 089503) - this is for cars with the older stereo where the wood goes all the way round the stereo. From MY2005 onward this wood trim stops just below the stereo.The SL63 is similar to MY2005 onward except the switch pack around the gearstick changed so the trim changes. There are (but not in all cases) a MY2009 onward version, although I am not clear as to what the exact changes are. And the SL Black series is again different, but this may just be because it has a AMG logo on the ashtray.

Japanese cars seem to have some different trim parts, so I suspect the shape of the audio system changed at a different point to the models in the rest of the world.

Just occsionally the trim for an option code changes around MY2007. I dont know whether the trim looks different, so be careful where there are 2 part numbers shown.

The pictures below have been collected from various eBay listings and other items for sale (including cars at my local dealer). They are not perfect, but should be taken as a guide.

Poplar trim. Option Code 729

Burled Walnut Root trim. Option code 731.

 Note, SL63 with option 731 centre console is A230 680 19 07. 

The picture above seems a bit light, it is much darker than the option 733 trim shown below.

It looks like this trim design changed at various points as A230 720 25 22 8J98 and A230 720 26 22 8J98 are also used from MY2007.

Chestnut Trim Option code 733.

Black Ash Trim. Option code 736

NB, on the 'Edition 50' with option 736 the centre console is A230 680 30 36. I beleive this is because it has 'Edition 50' written on the ash-tray.

NB, SL63 with option 736 centre console is A230 680 18 07

Aluminum Trim. Option code 739. Do not confuse with H70 etched AMG aluminium!!

 NB, MY2005 Left/Right door trims A230 820 19 22 7J94  and A203 820 20 22 7J94. It looks like the trim for this option ccode changed in different model years.

Light Burred Walnut Trim. Option code H12

Note. SL63 with option H12 centre console is A230 680 20 07

Aluminium AMG etched trim. As per original SL55. Standard on SL55 upto somewhere in MY2005. Option code is H70 for other engines / later cars.

Aluminium Evolution Trim. Option code H72. Used on the Edition 50 special edition vehicle.

Carbon High Gloss Trim. Option code H73 used on the Black Series and others.

SL65 Black series is A230 680 03 07.  SL63 with option H73 is A230 680 09 07. The picture above is from a SL65 Black Series.

There is also an AMG special edition (option code P97) which gives A230 720 39 22 as the left door trim and A230 720 40 22 as the right door trim
